When I watched the film tonight with two of my lifelong friends, Milo and Buboi, so many spoilers have already spread on social media out of writer-director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo’s film, ‘Kita Kita’ which grossed Php 250 million in its second week alone.
This film has already created so much buzz that a pirated copy is still leaking on Facebook despite Piolo Pascual’s, Spring Film’s Founder, Instagram post requesting people to report those who are sharing this link online.
Here are just a few reasons why you should watch Empoy Marquez and Alessandra De Rossi’s surprisingly effective love team on ‘Kita Kita’:
- See Japan like you’ve never seen it before
We have already seen so much of Japan through Tokyo’s lenses, its famed capital. Here in this film, Sapporo takes on center stage, Japan’s fifth largest city in the northern island of Hokkaido. Some of its highlighted spots include Sapporo Clock Tower where the film opens, Bell of Happiness in Mount Moiwa where lovers come for its scenic spots at night and could wish or pray and then ring the bell.
Sapporo’s neighboring areas were also captured on film like Otaru Canal where the lead characters, Tonyo (Empoy) and Lea (Alessandra) cruised, Biei flower park, and Asahidake, the highest mountain in Hokkaido.
- Witness how Empoy rises to the ranks of heartthrob status
Unlike in other films where Empoy is the sidekick of matinee idols, in ‘Kita Kita,’ the film producers gamble on (and won big time in) the unlikely tandem of Alessandra and Empoy as the leading man.
Admittedly, I didn’t want to watch the movie for its lead stars alone but because I’ve heard good reviews about its story merits, I got convinced and now, also convincing you to watch it. Here, Empoy explores and shines through the depths of despair and the heights of ecstatic love, all tinged with delightful humor.
- Marvel at the masterful impact when you marry good writing, directing with acting etc.
I’m always amazed by films written and directed by the same person, and this is one good example. This is Sigrid Andrea Bernardo’s breakthrough film, who’s reportedly worked various jobs just to save enough for it. She’s also helped by Piolo Pascual and fellow film director Joyce Bernal as executive producers.
When I first heard KZ Tandingan’s version of Air Supply’s original “Two Less Lonely People in the World” on Wish FM 107.5, I already loved it. But when I saw how the song is creatively woven in interestingly fitting scenes in the fabric of this film, I fell in love with it even more.
“Kita Kita” is a romantic comedy movie that will surprise you with its wit and humor and will make you fall in love all over again, despite its twists and turns.
This film will surely make you see love in a different light. You just gotta watch it!
